Japan supports Vietnam in developing renewable energy

Wind power projects in Quang Tri province co-financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have begun commercial operation.

According to the announcement of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), 69 wind power plants (out of 106 plants) with a total capacity of 3298,95 MW, including three onshore wind power plants in Quang province Tri (Lien Lap, Phong Huy, Phong Nguyen) with a total capacity of 144 MW by Vietnam Electricity Construction Joint Stock Company I and RENOVA Inc. invested by Japan, was officially recognized as commercial operation (COD) in October 10.2021 and is eligible to enjoy FIT (supported electricity price) according to the regulations of the Vietnamese Government. 

JICA signed a Loan Agreement on May 21.5.2021, 25 providing loans of up to XNUMX million USD to build these wind power projects with other co-sponsors, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Australian Export Credit (EFA).

This is the first wind power production project funded in the form of project loans JICA in Vietnam, with the expectation of becoming a model for wind power projects invested by the private sector, including Japanese and Vietnamese companies, operating in the field of renewable energy. 

JICA will continue to cooperate with private enterprises and international financial institutions to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and support Vietnam in achieving the updated targets of the National Contribution. National self-determination (NDC) on greenhouse gas (GHG) emission control was emphasized by Vietnamese leaders at the 26th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 26 ) happenning.
