Nghe An Province Department of Industry and Trade urges businesses to make plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
On September 24, 2025, the Department of Industry and Trade of Nghe An province sent Official Dispatch No. 2938/SCT - KTATMT on the development and approval of greenhouse gas emission reduction plans for the period from 2026 to the end of 2030 to 24 enterprises in the province. Accordingly, the Department of Industry and Trade requested establishments to urgently update and fully comply with current legal regulations on environmental protection, climate change response and management and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. In particular, establishments need to develop and approve greenhouse gas emission reduction plans for the period 2026-2030 according to the provisions of Point b, Clause 4, Article 13 of Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP of the Government, and send this plan to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People's Committee of Nghe An province before December 31, 2025.

Currently, according to Decision No. 13/2024/QD-TTg on promulgating the List of large greenhouse gas emission sectors and facilities that must conduct inventory and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, there are a total of 2.166 greenhouse gas emission facilities subject to inventory, an increase of 254 facilities compared to the list issued in 2022, accounting for about 30% of the total greenhouse gas emissions of the whole country. Nghe An alone has 24 facilities, operating in a variety of industries and fields such as food - beverage, industrial production, electronics.

The above move by the Department of Industry and Trade of Nghe An province was made when the deadline of December 31, 2025 was approaching. This demonstrated the locality's determination in implementing green transformation policies and strategies, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and responding to climate change, towards the national Net-Zero target by 2050. At the same time, this was also a wake-up call not only for 24 companies in Nghe An province but also for companies still subject to Decision No. 13/2024/QD-TTg. Therefore, businesses need to promptly implement the preparation of a Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Plan for the 2026-2030 period to ensure compliance with legal regulations.
