Not only winning the Premier League, Liverpool is also winning the ESG championship
On May 25, the players and coaching staff of Liverpool FC lifted the Premier League trophy for the 05th time, affirming their position as the greatest football club in England. Millions of fans around the world joyfully celebrated this historic championship.
At the end of May, Liverpool FC released "The Red Way 05" - the club's annual ESG report. It marks the club's continuous sustainable progress in its journey to build a better future for people, planet and communities.
1. For the Planet – Minimizing environmental impact
Reduce emissions:
12,5% reduction in carbon emissions compared to the 2022/23 season.
Down 15% from 2019/20 baseline.
Offset 100% of football emissions through investments in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Recycled energy:
96% of the energy used at the club's facilities comes from renewable or low carbon sources.
Sustainable transport:
Using green fuel (HVO) for football team buses, reducing emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional diesel.
Biodiversity:
Planted over 1.000 trees and hedges.
Set up 60.000 bees at the facilities to support the local ecosystem.
Recycling Anfield pitch into garden seating at AXA Training Centre.
2. For People – Promoting diversity and inclusion
"Red Together" Initiative:
Held the first 'Itfar' event at Anfield, hosting over 2.800 people during the Muslim month of Ramadan.
Promote equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the club's operations.
3. For Communities – Positive social impact
LFC Foundation:
Contributed over £65 million in community health benefits.
Investing over £16 million into the local economy.
Urban Farm:
Harvest 495kg of home-grown food in 2024, up 190kg from last year, to supply club kitchens and local communities.
4. Achievements and certifications
Prize:
Awarded nine major sustainability awards in 9/2023, including 'Most Sustainable in Sport' and 'Environmental Sustainability' at the Sports Industry Awards.
International Certification:
The first Premier League club to achieve ISO20121 (sustainable event management), ISO50001 (energy management) and ISO45001 (occupational health and safety) certifications.
