Airbus receives 'storm' of orders for emission-reducing aircraft

On the first day of the Paris Air Show 2025 in France, Airbus received orders for nearly 240 new aircraft. Notably, the ordered aircraft all have the same requirement of being optimized to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
Saudi-backed aircraft leasing company AviLease has signed a contract to buy 10 A350F freighters and 30 A320neo aircraft, with options to expand the deal to 22 A350Fs and 55 A320neo aircraft in the future with Airbus, Reuters reported.

Airbus introduced the A350F, which offers improved cargo capacity and complies with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) CO2 emission standards. Meanwhile, the A320neo is the most popular single-aisle aircraft on the market.

"AviLease aims to build a modern, fuel-efficient fleet to serve regional and global airline customers, so choosing Airbus aircraft is their first step," wrote Aviationa2z.

Also at the show, Riyadh Air placed a landmark order for 25 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, with the potential to increase to 50. The Airbus A350-1000 is a wide-body, ultra-long-range aircraft that will enable Riyadh Air to connect key international markets with premium service and reduced emissions.

With this event, Riyadh Air will be the first airline in Saudi Arabia to operate the A350-1000, supporting the goal of turning the kingdom into a global aviation hub by 2030.

Not to be left out, Japan's ANA Group has also signed a firm order for 27 Airbus aircraft, including four A4neos for All Nippon Airways, 321 A10neo jets and three A321XLRs for Peach Aviation.

Peach will become the first Japanese airline to operate the A321XLR, the longest-range single-aisle aircraft, offering a range of up to 8.700 km. The order reinforces the ANA Group’s ongoing fleet renewal strategy focusing on next-generation aircraft and reducing CO2 emissions.

Poland's LOT Polish Airlines also placed its first order with Airbus on the first day of the Paris Air Show, committing to buy 40 A220 aircraft, with the possibility of expanding to 84 aircraft in the future.

The A220 is scheduled to begin replacing LOT's existing regional jets from 2027. At the same time, LOT's adoption of the A220 family - known for its low fuel consumption and noise - marks an important step in the modernization of the airline's fleet.

"The entire Airbus product portfolio is certified to operate on 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and by 2030 will use 100% SAF fuel," said an Airbus representative.

With delivery dates extending into the next decade, the orders will strengthen Airbus’ production lines and support the green transition of the global aviation industry, aviation experts say. In addition, the orders reaffirm Airbus’s leadership in the global aircraft market, demonstrating a strong recovery in aviation investment after the pandemic.
