On May 16, the Department of Investigation Police on Corruption, Economic Crimes, Smuggling, and Environmental Crimes, Dong Thap Provincial Police coordinated with the Department of Environmental Police (Ministry of Public Security) to conduct an administrative inspection of compliance with environmental protection laws at the "organic substrate" production site of Dia Long Company.
Through inspection, it was discovered that the above company had discharged wastewater (leakage from the process of fermenting and drying mango seed shells) directly into the environment without treatment. The water was dark brown in color and had a foul odor.
Checking the records shows that Dia Long Company was only licensed to operate on an area of 5.000m2, but in reality the company used about 28.000m2.
Working with the inspection team, Mr. Bui Quang An (41 years old), Director of Dia Long Company, admitted that the mango shell treatment is based on the collection fee of 450 VND/kg, the company currently has about 5.000 tons of common solid waste (mango shells, seeds) on the land behind the company (agricultural land). The storage area is not lined, there is no system to collect leachate to let it flow naturally into the surrounding environment, causing pollution.
The inspection team has made a record of the current situation and collected samples of solid waste and wastewater for testing; at the same time, they are weighing mango peels and seeds for processing.
