On June 5, in Ho Chi Minh City, the award ceremony of the contest "Acting Green with HTV" in 6 took place. The program aims to raise public awareness of green, environmentally friendly, sustainable living and promote and spread the responsibility to preserve and protect the living environment.
The program also promotes the trend of applying green technology in environmental solutions, developing green economy, digital economy and circular economy, striving for the goal of Net Zero by 2050, to respond to global climate change.

Within the framework of the program, experts shared solutions to promote green lifestyles and apply environmentally friendly technologies. Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Anh Tuan - Director of the Center for Transport Research, Vietnam - Germany University - said that transportation is one of the industries with the largest CO2 emissions, accounting for about 22-25% of total global emissions. Ho Chi Minh City alone has more than 10 million people and nearly 10 million vehicles, CO2 emissions from this sector account for 35-40%; of which 80% come from road vehicles such as cars, motorbikes, etc.
“Developing green transport is not only to cope with climate change, but also directly related to health and quality of life. Each person breathes about 10mXNUMX of air per day. If the environment is polluted by fine dust and exhaust fumes, the risk of respiratory diseases and cancer increases, and life expectancy is shortened,” Mr. Tuan emphasized.
In order to minimize this negative impact, Ho Chi Minh City has been implementing a series of solutions to transform transportation towards green. The city is currently building 7 Metro lines, of which line 1 has been completed. The bus system is also being upgraded, with about 2.200 buses in operation, of which 30% are electric or run on CNG. The remaining diesel buses (more than 1.500, with a lifespan of about 10 years) will be gradually replaced by electric buses from now until 2030.
In particular, electric taxis are developing strongly. Ho Chi Minh City currently has 18.600 taxis, of which more than 13.000, equivalent to over 70%, are electric taxis. This is considered one of the remarkable achievements in the journey of converting means of transport to clean energy.
“Vietnam is among the top ASEAN countries leading in green transformation in transport, along with Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand,” said Mr. Tuan.
