At the Workshop "Hydrogen Energy - Potential and application opportunities for businesses in the Mekong Delta" taking place on March 29.3 in Bac Lieu, experts and representatives of the Department of Planning and Investment affirmed that Hydrogen will is a new source of energy to help the Mekong Delta provinces develop.
The conference was organized by Vietnam Green Innovation Joint Stock Company (GREEN IN) in collaboration with the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Bac Lieu province and the Department of Planning and Investment. Attending were more than 60 delegates representing local departments and neighboring provinces such as Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Ben Tre and Ca Mau; businesses, media agencies and scientists.
To address climate change, the world has been promoting the energy transition process, replacing fossil fuel sources such as oil, coal... with environmentally friendly forms of energy. , low emissions. According to research, Hydrogen will contribute 10% to reduce emissions by 2050.
The Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta) with its favorable geographical location and long coastline is not only favorable for developing renewable energy such as wind power but also favorable for developing Hydrogen energy. Some provinces in the Mekong Delta region have been effectively implementing many green hydrogen energy projects. Typically, Tra Vinh province has issued a decision on investment policy and started implementing the Tra Vinh Green Hydrogen Plant project, with a total investment capital of nearly 8.000 billion VND, production scale of 24.000 tons of hydrogen/year, 195.000 tons of medical oxygen/year. Ben Tre province is considering proposing the Ben Tre Green Hydrogen Plant project with an expected capacity in phase 1 to generate 84.000 tons of hydrogen/year; 540.000 tons of ammonia/year; 785.000 tons of oxygen/year. Bac Lieu province soon determined the direction of green Hydrogen development in the province as one of the "motivational and breakthrough" directions for socio-economic development. However, along with opportunities and development potential come many challenges and barriers. In the discussion about challenges, Dr. Tran Thien Khanh, Dong Nai University of Technology, said that the effectiveness of hydrogen is very clear, but currently it is necessary to have a clear view that this is clean energy, Or build a chemical factory. Because, when separating hydrogen and oxygen, they are considered chemicals, even though this implementation is aimed at moving towards a neutral economy, it is very meaningful in reducing emissions. In fact, there is currently no shortage of legal corridors for implementation. However, localities need to increase investment invitations for investors to come to the province to approach, research, survey and invest in hydrogen-related projects, especially potential investors. Strong resources and experience in this field to accompany the province in the process of concretizing hydrogen development orientation. A representative of the Department of Planning and Investment said that the locality has a policy to attract and support investors when participating in building local Hydro projects such as land rental support, administrative procedures and incentives. other related projects to develop projects to take full advantage of local advantages.
Delegates agreed that we should build an ecosystem for the Hydrogen industry from production, distribution and use; Provinces need to be linked to form a chain of sustainable development in the future.
