Nissan stopped accepting orders for electric cars because supply could not keep up with demand

AMERICA - The Japanese company stopped accepting more orders for the Ariya 2023 electric car model because the production process at home was affected by a shortage of components.

This is not the first time the Ariya manufacturing plant has fallen into instability when the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the chip shortage crisis had a strong impact. And to deal with the real situation, chief executive officer Ashwani Gupta said that it is better to limit orders so that vehicles can be delivered on time than to make customers angry by waiting too long.

“Every customer wants a car, and we don't want them to wait. Ariya has been accepted around the world. Even in the US, where we had to ask customers to stop placing orders,” Gupta said.

It is unclear how long it will take for Nissan factories to meet demand in the US. The company also did not announce the quantity Ariya electric car will be brought to the US, but some sources say that the total is less than 10.000 units.

The CEO also added that Nissan is having to cope with high demand for new electric vehicles, from the US to Japan and Europe.

In Japan, Ariya began being delivered to customers in May after the expected schedule of March. In the latest earnings report, Nissan said it had received 5 deposits in Japan, and had delivered 3 vehicles. .

Ariya – Nissan's second pure electric car after the Leaf model – will be sold in the US from this fall for about 40.000 USD. The car is produced in a new dedicated area of the company's Tochigi complex in northern Tokyo, a so-called smart factory.

The electric SUV comes with the option of front- or four-wheel drive, as well as two different sized battery packs. The standard version uses a 63 kWh battery. The higher version of 87 kWh helps Ariya run 482 km per charge, according to US EPA standards. There is currently no information about the lower version.

Ariya is capable of accelerating from 0-97 km/h in about 5 seconds. This performance is similar to Nissan's 370Z sports car.
