The presence of VinFast electric cars on the market is a push that makes many car companies accelerate product launches to compete and retain customers.
On December 25, VinFast officially handed over electric cars to customers. Meanwhile, Toyota surprised everyone when it announced that it would bring electric cars to the Vietnamese market next year, although before that, the company had previously said it was "not interested in electric cars".
Rushing to race
Mr. Akio Toyoda, President and General Director of Toyota Global, said that the Japanese car company will start production from the Toyota bZ series - pure electric cars. Pursuing the "bZ" goal (which means "beyond Zero" - negative emissions), Toyota's electric vehicle line aims to reduce CO2 emissions and reduce other negative impacts to zero.
Cooperating to develop this model with Subaru, Toyota is expected to launch 3 models of the bZ series next year in markets, including Vietnam. Toyota's Motomachi plant is producing the bZ4X and will soon expand to other bZ models.
Mr. Do Nguyen Vuong, General Director of Volkswagen Vietnam Automobile Company Limited, said that the car company has a plan to bring electric vehicles to the Vietnamese market but has not officially promoted it because it wants to wait for the infrastructure for electric vehicles. complete. However, with the news that Toyota is preparing to bring electric cars to the market, Volkswagen is forced to speed up the process of bringing electric cars to Vietnam as soon as possible.
According to THACO Auto General Director Nguyen Quang Bao, the Kia Sorento All New model (7-seat SUV) with hybrid engine will be sold in March 3. This is a car model with 2022 gasoline and electric engines, which can operate independently or in combination. The vehicle is equipped with a charging port using a civil power source, independent of the charging station.
Another hybrid model, Kia Sportage, will go on sale in June 6. In particular, Kia EV2022 - the company's first pure electric car model with super fast charging battery technology - is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of next year.
Nissan representative in Vietnam informed that this car company has a strategy and vision to develop an electric vehicle system and will soon launch it on the market. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi exhibited electric vehicles in Vietnam about 2 years ago and will soon officially launch electric vehicles in the Vietnamese market after bringing this vehicle line to a number of countries in the region.
Choices of the future
Mr. Akio Toyoda admitted that pure electric vehicles are one of the most promising options in the transportation vehicles of the future. Depending on the energy used, electric vehicles are divided into two groups: vehicles that reduce carbon emissions and carbon neutral vehicles.
Notably, Toyota plans to expand production of carbon neutral vehicles (pure electric vehicles). Accordingly, by 2030, the company plans to have 30 pure electric car models in the passenger car and commercial vehicle segments. To be confident with this plan, Toyota has had a solid foundation for many years in researching and developing "hybrid" and electric vehicles.
For example, in 1992, this car company established the Electric Vehicle Development Board and introduced the RAV4 EV electric car model to the market in 1996. In 2000, Toyota displayed the "e-com" EV electronic car model. After that, the company introduced the small electric car model EQ and the super small COMS in 2012. In the future, the Japanese car company has a strategy to invest an additional 2.000 billion yen to develop batteries with the goal of creating quality batteries. high and affordable.
A representative of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) acknowledged that electric vehicle prices are still quite high and the infrastructure has not been fully invested, so it cannot attract consumers. However, the launch of many electric cars by many companies has made the market start to "heat up", creating opportunities for customers to know about electric cars with many choices. “To attract customers to use electric vehicles, it is necessary to have preferential policies for investing in a widespread charging station system; exempting and reducing fees and taxes to lower car prices" - VAMA representative emphasized.
Mr. Do Nguyen Vuong said that when Volkswagen's electric SUV is brought to Vietnam, it will cost up to 1,8 billion VND, while the sedan will cost about 1,3 billion VND. If there is a preferential policy to bring the price of electric cars down to less than 1 billion VND, consumers will dare to buy a car to experience it.
